In 1965, the company LA CITTADELLA Sas was established and entrusted to the newly graduated Alberto Grotta with the goal of creating a small coffee roasting business to supply the recreational clubs in the city of Pontedera and throughout the province of Pisa.

In the mid-80s, to keep up with the company’s ever-increasing costs, Alberto Grotta, in agreement with the owners at the time, decided not only to expand the customer base to include bars and public establishments but also to extend the coffee roasting business to some provinces in Tuscany.

It’s a historic year for the roasting company, when Alberto Grotta and some employees decide to buy the company shares from the previous partners and implement new market and expansion strategies to boost their clients in Tuscany.

Thanks to Alberto Grotta’s business insight and the addition of other members in strategic roles, we have seen steady double-digit growth leading up to the creation of CITTADELLA Spa.

In 2016, we lost our founder Alberto Grotta, the soul and guide of the roastery. Today, Veronica Grotta, leading the second generation, carries on his dream with passion and dedication, looking to the future with the same strength he passed on to us.

After a careful research and development phase, the company invested significant resources to create the new fully automated ‘production plant 4.0’, aiming to ensure uncompromising in-cup quality for its customers.
